"I wouldn't say I'm a professional but I've been shooting on disposable cameras for years and some of the results are pretty cool."

Modest would be an understatement for Amy as she talks about her work. Her instagram is filled with beautiful and somewhat 'true' photographs all captured using disposable cameras as she travels around the world with her girlfriend Courtney and a bag full of cameras. The most prominent attraction to this work is the passion and dedication to the medium as a method of recording such personal moments and places they visit together and for me, the images are timeless.

SFUK: Tell us a little about yourself and your background in photography.

AH: My name is Amy, I'm 26 and at the moment I'm living in Nottingham. I'm currently working as a manager at a German cinema themed bar in the city which is weird and wonderful. I started collecting and playing around with disposable cameras around 5 years ago when I met my girlfriend. After a year, we decided to pack up and leave the UK. We've been travelling around the world now on and off for the past 4 years and I always make sure I pack plenty of disposable cameras.

SFUK: Why do you shoot film, have you always shot film & do you switch between digital and film?

AH: There's something I find magical about shooting film. It has a mystery to it that digital lacks. You never know what you're going to end up with. And of course the nostalgia that comes with shooting film. I remember when I was little, I'd visit my grandparents religiously every weekend, I'd always dig out their box of old photos and spend hours looking through them. I like to look at an old photo and imagine being there in that moment.

SFUK: Who inspires you, any favourite people or places you frequently go to for inspiration?

AH: I get inspired when I'm travelling. A lot of my photos are from various places around the world. It's cool because when my girlfriend and I are travelling, we tend not to have a plan, so you never know where you're going to end up. We spent a lot of time exploring Australia in a camper van and we'd stay in a random town one night, then go somewhere completely different the next. So after I got back to the UK and got all my cameras developed, it was sort of a game trying to guess where each photo was taken.

SFUK: How would you describe your style of shooting?

AH: I don't know if I have a style, I just shoot things that catch my eye and look interesting. I love anything a bit weird looking, small towns, abandoned buildings, fair grounds, dodgy looking alleyways. For instance, I was walking home the other day and saw that someone had just emptied loads of bread into the street and I thought, yeah that's really cool, I've got to take a photo!

SFUK: If you could have any camera in the world, which would you choose and why?

AH: I actually picked up an awesome camera a couple of weeks ago at a car boot sale. A job lot of cameras and accessories for £15. I couldn't resist after I saw the Zenit TTL and it's Helios 44m lens! So for now that's what I'm using, as well as expired disposables and a Holga.

SFUK: Do you have any plans for your next project?

AH: It may sound a little weird but I'm going to use a whole roll on shooting my girlfriend in a Halloween mask I picked up. It looks really cool, I'm getting her to do day to day stuff, only in a scary skull mask!
